Kazecon... It was really a different experience from the ACens the Cuties are now used to. It's been a while since we've been to such a tiny con. And yes, despite all the DRAMA, the fact that Samantha came down with a killer cold Saturday morning, the terrible traffic on our way there (though this is the first time we didn't get lost!), and the "incident" which was the gossip of the night, we had a good time.
Samantha could be seen cosplaying Mireille from Noir, as well as Chii from Chobits and the Cheshire Cat from Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. Sunny showcased two new costumes; an original Evil Six of Hearts Cardgirl and The Seven of Hearts Cardgirl, both from Miyuki-chan in Wonderland.
It was a different feeling to be wandering around that hotel without the hordes of cosplayers that normally come with cons. (Samantha walked out of the elevator Saturday morning as Mireille and was pretty positive the groom's men waiting for the elevator thought she was a callgirl. See, there's safety in numbers!) We enjoyed the Chicagoland Cosplay Club photo shoot outside. It was nice meeting some the group. Sunny and Samantha had a great time taking photos. It was actually difficult to pry the camera from Sunny's hands but her photos were wonderful.
The Cuties were quite surprised, but happy, to receive a judge's award in the masquerade. (It appears that we have learned to play the crowd.) We were also delighted to cheer for the other winners. While the wait for the masq. was awful and put quite a few cosplayers in a edgy mood (there was talk of just rushing the stage and rioting in our corner) we really got to talk to some talented cosplayers and make better friends.
We got to see and talk to a lot of friends we don't get to chat with much at cons. We saw Kill Bill late Friday night. Sam wearing kitty ears Sunny had made no less. ^_^ Sam also got plenty of hugs from "Inuyasha boy". We loved sitting around late Saturday night laughing with Keith Burgess, Steve Bennett, Steve Lin, Danielle, Steve Lin's staff and others. For this tiny con we probably got less sleep than we ever have at a con.
So, Kazecon had its serious drawbacks. We found ourselves wandering around without much to do quite often. Sunny taught Samantha basic belly dancing moves late Friday night. We also just filled our time taking photos for our domain and costume pages. It was unorganized but we enjoyed ourselves.
